I am frequently asked by other business associates how much I pay for a business referral lead and/or a finder’s fee. Although some consultants prefer to hide this topic under the carpet I believe it to be a subject which is quiet proper and should therefore be open and transparent. However in its broadest sense this question is like asking, “How long is a piece of string.” There are different parameters to this ethical business practice which in turn creates lots of confusion, so the best way to explain it is to lay out my own personal structure.
Historically the following business model formula is followed by most new consultants and a high percentage of long term consultants.
The pound is down to its lowest rate against the dollar in a long time. Businesses are being driven into liquidation faster than Formula 1 cars. Unemployment is reaching staggering proportions. Personal bankruptcies have significantly increased. Banks and other formerly respected financial institutions are in more trouble than Osama Bin Laden. Most businesses that have survived this and so much more are digging their heels in and hunkering down waiting to see what the credit crunch aftermath brings.
Few can deny we are in the early stages of a major recession.
